The Oscars are coming! The Oscars are co-...
So they've announced the nominations for this years Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards (That's the Oscars to you and me)
Nothing too surprising there, they do it every year. But let's take a quick look at some of the "hmmmm...." entries.
Best actress in a supporting role Soirse Ronan for Atonement. Interesting
Performance by an actress in a leading role Cate Blanchett in "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"
Performance by an actress in a supporting role Cate Blanchett in "I'm Not There" (Do you think someone likes Cate Blanchett?)
Best animated feature film of the year "Persepolis" "Ratatouille" "Surf's Up" (Hands up who's seen more than 1 of these three? Thought so!)
Achievement in visual effects "The Golden Compass" "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" "Transformers" (Hmm. No Spiderman 3... Or '300' !!!)
For those of you that follow these things, Harry Knowles at Ain't It Cool News has got his opinion about this, and it's about what you would expect him to say if you read his column regularly (like I do)
On other matters:
Fabulous (and disturbing) article in a recent edition of the Daily Mail (UK Newspaper not quite at the level of the National Enquirer) stating that 59 per cent of wives would leave their husbands (if they could afford it). That's a damning indictment of society today. Kevin over at Change Your Tree has a concise little post about this article. it's worth checking out.
It also appears that our worlds supply of bananas is dying out. Quick stock up before they disappear completely!
Finally
For those of you who were disappointed (as I was) with the original Sin City DVD (few extras, no commentary) there is now a new version. The Sin City: Re-Cut And Extended Collector's Edition Steelbook (2 Discs) is on release now in the UK and you can buy it here
