Sometime overnight, Google has updated their Gmail functionality. The update itself appears to be quite well received (Listening to tweets about it across the internet, I believe it has something to do with a status bar update for uploads (?)), However it has had knock on effects . . .I am using Firefox as a browser with a number of add-on's. Two of these are Google related. The first one is a great tool that customises Google and allows you - for example - to remove the ads from Gmail, reader and the search results. The second one is Gmail Redesigned.
Gmail Redesigned completely overhauls the look-and-feel of the Gmail (and Google reader) screen and makes the UI look very, very nice. It's how Google's Gmail themes should have worked, but don't.
Only this morning it didn't work. I have been defaulted back to standard Gmail. The redesigned functionality was missing. And I'm getting ads on Gmail
Somewhere down the line it would appear that the new Google update has conflicted with my favourite 2 Firefox add-in's
Or maybe it's just me.
Now I'm stuck with the old fashioned Gmail UI which, frankly, sucks.
I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the add-on. No luck.
Anyone else having this problem?
UPDATE: This has been reported to the folks at Globex Designs who release Gmail Redesigned. They are aware of the issue and are working through solving the problem. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope it gets dealt with soon.

I noticed the same thing this morning. It works on the google calendar. What the heck!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad it's not just me. I can get Google Reader to work well with Redesigned but still no luck with Gmail. I think it's a problem with a new CSS file Google have sent out (but could be wrong...)
ReplyDeleteHopefully they'll fix it soon!
